Huntingtown, Calvert County · Family run for 30+ years
About Desler Painting
Expert interior & exterior painting services for homes in Huntingtown, Owings and the rest of Calvert County — a family business for over thirty years, where the owner who quotes your job is the one who paints it.
Who we are
One company, from the first call to the last coat.
Three decades of painting the same county, still run by the family that started it.
Desler Painting is a family business, and it has been painting in and around Huntingtown and Owings, Maryland for over thirty years. The work is purely residential — interior and exterior painting, cabinet and trim refinishing, and the light remodeling that tends to come with it.
That length of time in one county is the whole point. Dale Miller has painted through three decades of local building trends, from the hardboard siding that went up all over Calvert in the 1980s to the fiber cement on newer builds. He knows which prep a Maryland exterior actually needs, and which shortcuts come back within a year.
It stays small on purpose. Dale is the owner and the lead painter: he quotes the job, he works the job, and he is the person you call if something is not right. There is no call center in between, and no rotating crew you have never met. Most of the work comes from repeat customers and the neighbors they mention us to.
What we stand for
How we work.
Four commitments that decide how every job here actually runs.
Craftsmanship before speed
The priorities have not changed in thirty years: high quality, fine craftsmanship, and customer service that actually shows up. A wall is not finished because the clock says so — it is finished when the cut lines are straight and the surface reads flat under side light.
You deal with the owner
Dale prices the work, and Dale does the work. That closes the gap most homeowners complain about, where the person who quoted the job is never seen again. When something unexpected turns up behind the trim, the decision gets made on the spot rather than escalated.
Trusted in occupied homes
Most of the people we work for are not home while the work is going on. That only works if you trust who is in your house, so we are licensed, fully insured, and used to working around a household — furniture covered, floors protected, and everything cleaned up before we leave.
Residential, and staying that way
We do not chase commercial or industrial contracts. Keeping to houses keeps the schedule honest: your kitchen is the job that week, not filler between warehouse projects.
What we handle
The whole job.
Painting and finishing for houses — every service in house, each with a page of its own.
The process
What working with us looks like.
Whether it is one ceiling or a whole exterior, the shape of the job is the same four steps.
- 01
Walkthrough on your street, not over the phone
Dale drives out to the house, whether it is off Route 4 in Sunderland or down a lane in Port Republic. He looks at the actual substrate, because 1980s hardboard and newer vinyl need different products.
- 02
Prep sized to the age of the house
Older homes get careful dust control and hand sanding. On newer Dunkirk and Prince Frederick builds the real work is caulking and priming new construction surfaces so the color holds.
- 03
Coating inside a Bay weather window
Exterior work gets scheduled around humidity rolling off the Chesapeake, not just around rain. We stop early on damp afternoons, because a coat that cannot flash off will fail within a year.
- 04
Walk it together before we load up
You and Dale walk every room or elevation with a light before the truck leaves. Anything you point out gets fixed that day, rather than added to a punch list for later.
Standards
Honest prep and straight pricing.
What we hold ourselves to, and how the money works — stated before you ask.
The prep is the job
Washing, scraping, filling, caulking and priming take far longer than the finish coats, and they are what a cheap quote quietly removes. Our estimates assume that work as standard, and list it, so you can compare two numbers fairly.
A price that holds
You get a free written estimate with a realistic timeline, after a walkthrough rather than over the phone. Clients tell us the thing they valued most was how well the cost stayed under control from start to finish.
